What is the Adur and Worthing Befriending Service?
The Age UK Befriending Service offers support and companionship to older people over 65+ years of age, the scheme is supported by a committed team of volunteers who visit older people who:
- live alone or are socially isolated
- have very little support available from family or friends
- have few, if any opportunities to get out on their own
- would benefit from social contact
What can you expect from the service:
- Regulare visits by a volunteer to your home
- Accompany you on walks or for a drive
- Collect your prescriptions
- Carer respite for the duration of the visit
- Initial 12 week programme of support

(Our volunteers are unable to undertake housework, shopping, DIY or gardening and cannot provide personal care).
We’re here…we’re listening and we can help!
Our highly trained volunteers will visit on a regular basis initially for 12 weeks. We can sit and chat over a cuppa, escort you on a planned outing, help with correspondence and…perhaps most importantly…we’ll listen to your needs and give the right information as to where help is available. We can even help find appropriate activities within the community and support you until you feel able to pursue them independently

Can you help us?
The ‘Adur and Worthing Befriending Service’’ is in need of volunteers to help us with visiting older vulnerable people who may need assistance or would like company. Training and support is provided, and your travel expenses covered.
What skills will I need to volunteer?
- Patient conversational skills.
- Good listening skills.
- A social disposition.
- 1-2 free hours a week.
