Age UK and Partnership for Older People Projects

AWS is working in partnership with West Sussex County Council, West Sussex PCT and many local voluntary organisations in this Dept. of Health project. Here are two key strands the Community Partnership teams and the Neighbourhood networks.

There are seven teams of each across the county. AWS is involved in all of them except Horsham. We are the lead organisation in Arun and Mid Sussex for the neighbourhood networks

Neighbourhood networks

Neighbourhood networks teams bring together local groups and organisations that provide services for older people.

Each network includes:

  • a network coordinator
  • a business development officer
  • a community fundraiser
  • a publicity officer
  • community engagement workers
  • admin staff

By consulting individuals and community groups, each network seeks to discover and overcome any gaps in services. They will also develop local neighbourhood responses that enable older people to maintain their health, welfare and independence within the home.

Neighbourhood networks can:

  • provide support to develop new groups and services
  • encourage social enterprise and other business models
  • help existing groups to maintain or expand their activities or services
  • provide fundraising advice for rent, equipment, programme expansion, running costs, or other needs
  • provide publicity support to increase awareness of existing groups or promote new ones
  • help to develop links between organisations working with older people

One very important role within POPP is the development of Older People reference groups. They go by many different names e.g they are Consultation groups in Arun. We are actively looking for older people who wish to be more involved in having a say on important issues in their locality.
